Technical Skills of Laboratories in Oil Refineries

Laboratory Technicians are the ones behind the scenes who test, monitor and analyze chemical reactions and levels to understand measure and remediate any issues. Laboratory Technicians work throughout the industry, setting up and conducting chemical experiments, tests and analyses. They also develop and document new testing procedures as part of continuous improvement. They often work in teams and are responsible for the quality control of chemical processes.
They are curious scientists who want to know exactly what is happening inside each water, oil, or chemical sample. They set up and conduct chemical experiments using techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy, physical and chemical separation techniques and microscopy to find out the specifications, quality, or changes in each sample.
This training course for chemistry-based laboratory technicians, emphasizes the applied and theoretical aspects. The 26 weeks course begins with classical quantitative analysis and follows with a practical approach to the complex world of sophisticated electronic instrumentation commonly used in real-world laboratories. Providing a foundation for the two key qualities—the analytical mindset and a basic understanding of the analytical instrumentation—this course helps prepare individuals for success on the job.
Modules cover sample preparation; gravimetric analysis; titrimetric analysis; instrumental analysis; spectrochemical methods, such as atomic spectroscopy and UV-Vis and IR molecular spectrometry; chromatographic techniques, including gas chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography; electroanalytical methods; and more.
An introductory section gives students a preview of general laboratory considerations, safety, laboratory notebooks, and instrumental analysis.
